HOLY CRAP

Last night I got the biggest surprise ever. I am completely and utterly floored that my CA buddies got me something this awesome for my birthday.

Now I'll just say for those who don't know, I am a huge Rocketeer buff and I have been jonesing for this helmet for at least half of my life. In fact, the only thing that I want more than this is a Delorean, and that's a freaking car. This helmet is a limited edition reproduction of the hero prop used in the film, and is hand crafted out of solid brass just like the one Cliff wears in the comic. It is gorgeous! And it proves that I have cooler friends than you.

Thank you guys so much, you made my 22nd birthday a special one indeed.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot...check out what this warning tag on the helmet says.

Um...yeah right.

The majority of The Rocketeer was shot at the Municipal Airport in Santa Maria, CA. I was in high school at the time and worked at what used to be the Hilton Hotel at the airport. I got to meet the crew as they were building the sets as well as several of the actors and actresses once shooting started. They built the entire airport as seen in the movie. The sets remained in place for several years after shooting ended, I'll have to see if I can find any of the photos I took of them from that time. The main hanger set was moved across the airport and became part of the Santa Maria Air Museum which is at the south end of the airport. I passed through last weekend and the museum is still there as well as the hangar from the movie.

Dude, that is seriously awesome, and I am SO GLAD you show the picture of DO NOT WEAR ON HEAD and you DID it.

You little rebel you.

Seriously, all I have to do is look at you posing with the helmet and I can HEAR the trumpets from the theme music...
